Subject: Im Lost. Please Help. From: Matthew Jensen <mmj@xxxxxxx> Date: Thu, 24 Jun 1999 17:39:58 +1000 |
Im trying to understand this whole SGML, DTD, DSSL thing. As far as i can tell it works like this: 1. I write a DTD which defines the structure of my documents. 2. I write the sgml document using the tags defined the DTD. 3. I write a DSSSL style-sheet which will be used to format my sgml document. 4. I [try to] use jade to process the SGML document with the DSSSL style-sheet. 5. Somehow I get from 3&4 to an output format, eg: HTML/RTF. I have the docbook DTD and the DTD i wrote includes that, with a few additions that i wanted to make. As far as the DSSSL part goes, this is where i am lost. I was under the impression that I could write a DSSSL document to format the document independant of the output format. So if i have a <mytag> make it blue, bold and italic. From this there would be a DSSSL document which would convert it to either rtf/ps/pdf or html. What confuses me is that there is two sections in the docbook style sheets, html and print. Where do i put my part of the DSSSL spec so that i can set the format then convert to HTML or RTF? thanks in advance for the help. -- mmj@xxxxxxx DSSSList info and archive: http://www.mulberrytech.com/dsssl/dssslist
