See the doc for <xsl:param> http://www.w3.org.  Briefly, <xsl:param> is not
valid where you have it. It can only be a top-level element or a child of
<xsl:template>.  

It's not clear to me what you are trying to accomplish with your XSL code.
If you are more detailed about what you want to happen, someone might point
you in the right direction.
