simpler to write

I use <xsl:if test="NodeA">...</xsl:if>

A node set may be used in a boolean context and is true if it is non
empty. You are already using that fact when you use it with not().

Your test is actually rather strange, you used false not false() so
you are comparing against the string value of a child element called
false.
