I'm not sure hot to interpret what you are saying but does this mean with these two fixes, it works?

BTW, check out bug #1639 which is about Xalan escaping characters for ISO encodings.

2 things which occured furthermore with the original bartest-FO.xsl:

1. wrong(?) namespace for xsl-fo, FOP didn't work with it:

I had to change it from " http://www.w3.org/XSL/Format/1.0 " to "
http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Format ".

2. xsl:import is not allowed in this position in the stylesheet (line 9):

I don't know why. Changing it to <xsl:include> works.

The stylesheet 'head':

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?>

<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0"
                xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform";
                xmlns:fo="http://www.w3.org/XSL/Format/1.0";>

<xsl:output method="xml" version="1.0" indent="no"/>

<xsl:import href="barcode-EAN-logic.xsl"/>
<xsl:import href="barcode-EAN-FO.xsl"/>

</xsl:stylesheet>
