gfx2 (no longer maintained, but reasonably high-quality) is a deluxe paint
clone that allows one to work in a variety of modes. The classic VGA 320x200
mode provides an 8:5 vert:horz aspect ratio. All this talk of demos reminded
me of it, as it's (even now) often used by demo-sceners and hobbyist game
artists for other platforms. It seems to still be available at
