Subject: [Semi-OT] [stella] Time for a change? From: "B. Watson" <atari@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Wed, 16 Feb 2005 17:43:28 -0500 (EST) |
HI all, I hope I'm not speaking out of turn, but I was just wondering if AtariAge would be willing to create a forum specifically for this list. Or maybe the stella list could get it's own domain and set up it's own forum board. I would be willing to donate a few bucks towards that.
Ugh. If we were voting on whether to stay with a mailing list or switch to a `forum board', my vote'd be on mailing list.
Every `forum board' uses a different graphical interface, and requires a different username/password (sure, you *could* use the same password for everything, but it's a horrible idea). Also, with web sites, you generally don't keep permanent copies of any discussions. With email, you do (or anyway you can): I've got an archive of every [stella] post since I first joined the list, and I didn't have to do any work to get it...
Plus, there's already a perfectly good web-forum for 2600 programmers to use, if they like web-boards: atariage itself.
Side note: I was considering volunteering to run a Mailman or Majordomo list for [stella] myself, but at this point in my life, another project to maintain is the last thing I need. However, I'm willing to kick in a few bucks to help support such a server (buying hardware, or bandwidth costs, or whatever), if anyone else is considering hosting it.
