Interesting behavior.  When I use Mike's suggestion, I get the same results (40,000).  When I use Jason's suggestion, it doesn't mess with it.  Thought I'd share just in case anyone runs across the same issue...

Did you try enclosing it in quotes so that Xalan thinks it's a string?

<xsl:value-of select="'40000'"/>

I would hope that it doesn't try to format that for you.


This behavior is incorrect, I would submit a bug report.

You could try converting to a string first, select="string(40000)"
