Thanks for the reply. I feel much better knowing I should be able to do it. 

I did check the ascii rtf for the "cols" (or cols2) directive and found it
missing which is what perplexed me.  Could it have anything to do with the
way I'm running Jade?  For testing and experimentation purposes, I'm simply
running it from the command line like:
	jade -d abc.dsl -t rtf abc.xml 
I'm also not specifying a DTD for my input file and allowing a
non-validating parse to occur.  Jade produces a warning message that it
couldn't find the DTD and signifies that it "will parse without validation"
but the abc.rtf file seems to be produced correctly anyway (except for the
cols directive). Any other thoughts?
