The remainder of this message is a first try at the high level description of "The DSSSL Handbook". More details on the outline will be forthcoming, but that shouldn't stop anyone from contributing ideas about the outline or commenting on this description. It assumes: - No prior knowledge of DSSSL - No prior knowledge of Scheme - A working knowledge of SGML - Access to the DSSSL standard The handbook contains both explanatory and reference information, and it is not necessary to read the entire book from cover to cover. A new user may read the all of the introductory tutorial material, but others may only jump from chapter to chapter as they need or just dip into the book occasionally. The handbook covers the concepts of DSSSL, details of DSSSL's style, expression, query and transformation languages, and modelling common structures using DSSSL, as well as the practicalities of writing a stylesheet and running a DSSSL engine for the first time. It does not, however, solely concentrate on a particular DSSSL engine, and information on an engine's extension to DSSSL are grouped in a single chapter. Similarly, information on DSSSL extensions required for xml-style are grouped within their own section. The handbook is indexed and extensively cross-referenced, plus it makes frequent reference to sections within the DSSSL standard. ---------- $Id: hb-goals.txt,v 1.2 1997/06/18 13:46:40 tkg Exp $ DSSSList info and archive: http://www.mulberrytech.com/dsssl/dssslist
