Try Lynx "Save As Text" from Netscape, from Mosaic, Paul> etc. [Lynx doesn't format tables.] I'd investigate jadetex as a means of getting plain text, though that has table infelicities. I don't know the state of the art on DVI-to-text, and SPQR may opine on how sensible it is, but some time ago I hacked some on the `dvidoc' postprocessor and got reasonable results (modulo maths) from fairly random LaTeX. You'd probably at least need to hack the style sheet layout parameters for the output grid involved. DSSSList info and archive: http://www.mulberrytech.com/dsssl/dssslist
