Hi Ralph, I agree with most of your points. May I do a suggestion? If Hybrick would be also packaged as a component like for instance a DCOM component or a XPCOM component, it could be even easier to integrate it into all kind of product. If you think this is possible, I will be the first interested to use it and incorporate it into other product able to accept components. If some cooperation is welcomed, write to me, we can further discuss this. If we all cooperate, DSSSL can survive. This process has continued, even though many of the references "from well-known sites" to our site are wrong. The correct address is: http://www.fsc.fujitsu.com/hybrick. In regard to XSL, as Brandon Ibach replied: >Date: Thu, 3 Jun 1999 22:12:54 -0500 >From: Brandon Ibach <bibach@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> >Subject: Re: ... > Maybe this just means that us DSSSLers have tools that work, >whereas the XSL folks just keep struggling along, Yes, and there would be even more tools, had XSL not thrown a curve ball into the process. As some people know, Fujitsu Laboratories demonstrated a prototype GUI DSSSL style sheet editor at SGML/XML '97. That conference was held in December, 1997. But a year later, I felt compelled to write on xml-dev: >Unfortunately, though, the "traditional" DSSSL folks seem bent on ignoring >HyBrick as well. Current users write messages to the DSSSL list asking for >advice on how to output RTF from Jade, while the developers have abandoned >DSSSL altogether for the siren-song of XSL. Some people took issue with me, but James Clark's message of a few days ago shows this impression was correct. Much of the consequences of this have been discussed elsewhere, e.g., in reply to Michael Leventhal's xml.com article. One pointed not noted is that the confusion around XSL caused further development of Fujitsu's DSSSL editor to be put on hold. Meanwhile, however, the development of HyBrick itself has continued, raising again the requirement for a GUI style sheet editor. The current version has a Japanese-language interface. The first step toward resumed development would be to create an English-language version. We're looking into this possibility now. Please note: This is not a product announcement and of course this list is not for a discussion of product development. I would, however, be interested in hearing from anyone who cares to communicate with me on the foregoing. Best regards, Ralph E.
