Hi Davidb

You are describing a situation that <alternatives>
was designed to handle.

We envisioned <alternatives> as containing (for example):
 - a graphic (low-res, black and white);
 - same graphic (high-res, color);
 - an accessible version where someone describes the
    graphic;
 - a media version, of which the graphic is
    but one frame (watch the movie of the reaction);
 - an interactive version (plug your materials into
    the reaction and see what happens)

Now, this puts a lot of pressure on the receiving
applications to know what to do based on the device
doing the asking, or the protocols, or user preference,
or whatever.

Therefore many of your ways might work, and might be
more practical.

But the dream was <alternatives>.

determined by a combination of the online host and how we as a society want to
view this content, but what we were wondering is if anybody else has come up
with a good way to deal with an interactive versions of a graphic that is not
necessarily supplemental to the article content?
