Subject: [jats-list] 2D Figures and their Interactive Versions From: "Haber, David dhaber@xxxxxxxxxx" <jats-list-service@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Wed, 21 Dec 2016 20:31:28 -0000 |
Hi, We have authors starting to submit interactive graphics created using Jupyter notebooks. The notebooks allow for manipulation by the user in various ways, much like the various pdb viewers out there. The issue we are facing as it relates to encoding these objects in the JATS is that we will have two versions of these graphics, the flat 2D version and the richer interactive version. It seems like there are a few different ways we could tag the material: 1. Using <alternatives> to wrap <graphic> and <media> tags within a fig element 2. Grouping the two versions of the graphics within a <fig-group> (I believe elife does something like this) 3. Or simply treating the interactive version as supplementary-material 4. Maybe some fourth way... In the end, perhaps the decision on how to tag this material will be determined by a combination of the online host and how we as a society want to view this content, but what we were wondering is if anybody else has come up with a good way to deal with an interactive versions of a graphic that is not necessarily supplemental to the article content? And I apologize in advance if this isn't quite the right forum for this sort of discussion. Thanks.
