My version included \[ and \] as delimiters around the LaTeX expression. You may or may not need them, depending on what application is going to interpret or render the LaTeX. With some additional color and space for clarity: <![CDATA[ \[ F_{2,1045} = 24.942, p < .001 \] ]]> Also, Ibm not sure what the \ character before the F is for. If you just want the variable F, I donbt think you need it. So I think you need either this: <tex-math notation="LaTeX"><![CDATA[ \[ F_{2,1045} = 24.942, p < .001 \] ]]></tex-math> or this <tex-math notation="LaTeX"><![CDATA[ F_{2,1045} = 24.942, p < .001 ]]></tex-math> to have a LaTeX-capable application render the expression as this: F2,1045 = 24.942, p < .001 Although Oxygen doesnbt render LaTeX by default, there is a blog post that mentions a free plug-in that converts LaTeX to images for display (https://blog.oxygenxml.com/topics/adding-latex-equation-support-dita.html). I havenbt tried it myself. Oxygen will render MathML, but creating MathML is more cumbersome than typing LaTeX. There is an expensive plug-in for Oxygen (formerly from Design Science, now sold by Wiris), and there are less expensive applications that will export MathML that you can copy and paste into your XML document in Text view. Finally, for very simple math expressions like this one you may find you need no more than basic inline markup, like so: F2,1045 = 24.942, p < .001 I mention these because you said youbre just starting out, so they may be worth researching, depending on how much math youbll have to deal with. -- Michael R. So, what you're saying is that the code below is alright, it's just not showing up in Oxygen author mode? This is an example code in text mode - in the example you sent I had to change the final \ into ] otherwise it's green until the end of the file This is how it shows up in author mode: On Fri, 19 Mar 2021 at 23:17, Michael Boudreau mboudreau@xxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:mboudreau@xxxxxxxxxxxx> <jats-list-service@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:jats-list-service@xxxxxxxxxx errytech.com>> wrote: Hi Mario, Although Oxygen will not render LaTeX, this should work: \[F_{2,1045} = 24.942, p < .001\] You can check it at https://www.mathjax.org/#demo<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/www.mathjax. org/*demo__;Iw!!BpyFHLRN4TMTrA!pAzjkQ7_rbXAVH9Z7UkHt8EOH2tW1rAa7EA0n7BqDWj4az dLvLK27aU5VO9O7doWwlxY$> -- Michael R. I just started using XML a few months ago, with no prior knowledge of programming, and this is only my second article - so I'm pretty much a noob. I use Oxygen. The problem is, I cannot get a few very simple mathematical formulas to work using LaTeX in XML JATS. I also cannot find any tutorials or example articles online. I would like to use LaTeX, and not MathML. Would anyone be willing to help me? Basically, right now I just need to learn how to make a subscript, but am also interested to learn more for future articles. This is an example formula that I've written based on one tutorial I found. Everything works alright (the formula is inline, it's italic, looks nice), but it does not want to make the "2,1045" a subscript as it should. Other operators (such as "to the power of" also don't seem to work). <inline-formula> <tex-math notation="LaTeX"> <![CDATA[/F_{(2,1045)}= 24.942, p<.001]]> </tex-math> </inline-formula> This is the data at the beginning of my XML doc in case the problem lies there: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE article PUBLIC "-//NLM//DTD JATS (Z39.96) Journal Publishing DTD with OASIS Tables with MathML3 v1.1 20151215//EN" "JATS-journalpublishing-oasis-article1-mathml3.dtd"> <article article-type="research article" xml:lang="en" dtd-version="1.1" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink<https://urldefense.com/v3/__http:/w ww.w3.org/1999/xlink__;!!BpyFHLRN4TMTrA!srvdf_wWtBmWElGP9v_fgJmYXX2XkfTbSHQlj 0bQeZX946b60ruxy-5yOl9uDVKpwfrQ$>" xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML<https://urldefense.com/v3/__htt p:/www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML__;!!BpyFHLRN4TMTrA!srvdf_wWtBmWElGP9v_fgJmYXX2 XkfTbSHQlj0bQeZX946b60ruxy-5yOl9uDSzrPBLS$>"> Many many thanks for any ideas or suggestions!
