Parallelism in writing is another:

Examples of world-changing things:
    * Liquid lighter fuel;
    * A lit match;
    * A cart-wheel.

Example of combined things:
    * A burning cart.

Where text can be machine generated there can be value in allowing zero
items in a list; i remember this argument was used to allow empty lists
in HTML. Actually i think i was one of the people who made the argument
:)
