<xsl:if test="name()='eventName' or name()='applicationName'">
...
</xsl:if>

It might also be worth remembering that name() returns the full qualified name, so you may have to take namespaces into consideration. Use local-name() to avoid this, or try

<xsl:if test="self::eventName | self::applicationName">
...
</xsl:if>
