That's declared the entity to be a general parsed entity (is that really
how it was in the sgml?

If you can edit your ent file to declare these as unparsed entities (as
they are not xml this would be more correct anyway) 

<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' ?>
<!ENTITY CorporateLogo SYSTEM
"images/corporateLogo.gif"
NDATA gif>
^^^^^^^^^^

then you could use

<xsl:value-of select="unparsed-entity-uri(@imagename)"/>
