Works like a charm, thanks.
Now I have to think about how I can use Saxon with OO.org since I do need XSLT 2.0 support later on. But this is a start already!

As a matter of fact I was about to ask what parser OO.org is using. There's no
chance to use Saxon in OO.org, is there? :)

according to

http://xml.openoffice.org/sx2ml/

it uses xalan (with xerces as the parser)

so you can chain stylesheets like so, as xalan supports the node-set function.

first make sure that _every_ template in each stylesheet is declared and
called using a mode then make a stylesheet that imports your two main
stylesheets, do your first pass into a varable, then use the node set
extension function and apply the templates in the second mode to the
variable

<xsl:template match="/"> <xsl:variable name="pass1"> <xsl:apply-templates mode="pass1"/> </xsl:variable> <xsl:apply-templates mode="pass2" select="exslt:node-set($pass1)/node()"/> </xsl:template>
