You are ot giving us many clues as to what criterion you are trying to encode which decides which notes to move, but note the preeeeceding-sibling axis selcts all preceding siblings, perhaps you just want the closest, so that's preceding-sibling::*[1] or, if you just want the closest sibling if it is a note, preceding-sibling*[1][self::note] David ________________________________________________________________________ The Numerical Algorithms Group Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales with company number 1249803.
