That was one of the questions Dana was asked. She gave an answer implying that she considered the parentage of a node to be "part of its identity", i.e. a node could not be moved to a different parent while remaining "the same node". I personally think this thinking comes from the implementations she is familiar with, rather than being anything fundamental.
