almost certainly it was a nbsp character #160 which is being (correctly) 
written out in utf-8 encoding into the html file but you are looking at 
it with a system (incorrectly) set up to assume the 1-byte latin-1 
encoding, which means that (in that range) you get accented A characters 
everywhere,
