Computer code can be copyrighted. The value of the copyright is
arguable, since the technology changes so rapidly, making code obsolete
quickly. And in any event, skillful programmers can maintain the basic
functionality of an application with entirely rewritten code.  Think of
how quickly Netscape "rewrote" the Mosaic browser.
