NYTimes Bk Rev. (September 14, 2003, Page 13) Bk review by Richard A. Shweder of "Who Owns Native Culture?" bk by Michael F. Brown, Harvard Univ. Press. Larger view: With the changes being made in copyright both digital and non, hasn't "culture" become a commodity and not a reflection of, inspiration to, product of, symbol of, etc. modern society. Or, is the selling of creativity to the highest bidder the pervasive cultural influence? Can culture be owned? Seems like bits of it can. Deborah K. Showalter-Johnson
