Richard,

We just implemented two new policies which establish a university
Copyright committee. The Copyright Committee will have representation
from faculty from each college, the library, and the extended learning
division; as well as ex-officio members from the Administration. The
committee is advisory, and is in the process of being put together. The
Library Director has been appointed as the Copyright Administrator,
whose function is to investigate these types of issues with the
copyright committee. The President of the university makes final
decisions, but under these policies the Copyright Committee and
Administrator have some teeth to enforce and apply policy and the law.
Education is part of the charge of the committee also.

Subject: IP oversight

Recently one of our faculty members asked me a question that I would
like to forward to this group. Professors sometimes take liberties with
regard to the copyright law and the digital items that they use in
their classes. My feeling is that faculty members in general are
expected to know, or to find out how the law relates to there work. I
know that universities and campuses may have people who can offer
advice to faculty members about individual cases, but I would like to
know if there are any instances where someone on campus actively (or
proactively) looks for questionable online practices to correct?

Thanks in advance.
