Subject: Making a transcript and tranlsation of transcript of movies to be shown in class? From: "Humphrey, Brenadine" <humphreyb@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Tue, 27 May 2008 18:22:06 +0200 |
We have purchased (legally) copies of 2 videos to be shown in one of our courses, but our department wants to make transcripts of the video and have them translated (we teach in 3 languages) for use by class room interpreters and students while viewing the video. Since we can show the videos in class - the assumption is that we can make transcripts and translations without seeking permission from the copyright owners. I'm hesitant to say OK given that the translations are derivatives works. Any ideas? Anyone else run into this before? Any pointers or references would be greatly appreciated. -Brenadine Brenadine Carol Humphrey Copyright Specialist George C.
