On March 26th, a Higher Education Digital Video Summit was held to discuss the present and future of digital video in higher education. For the executive summary of the Summit, including recommended next steps for action, and a few pictures from the event, please click on the following link: http://www.west.asu.edu/icdeg/digitalsummit It was a productive meeting and the organizers (the "Gang of 7") wants to follow through on the recommended steps for action. Coincidentally other initiatives were launched independently of the Summit and appear to address two of the Next Steps identified in the Summit. They are: Mellon Foundation grant to ARL to develop "Best Practices in Fair Use" http://www.arl.org/news/pr/mellon-grant-8apr10.shtml http://chaucer.umuc.edu/blogcip/collectanea/2010/04/best_practices_in_fair_us e_com.html Indiana University survey on academic libraries plans and practices for delivery of Streaming Video (Reported on VideoLib, April 29) http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/libvideo>http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/libvideo If you have additional ideas or information to share, please contact Jane Hutchison ( hutchisonj@xxxxxxxxx ) We look forward to a continuation of the discussion held on the 26th and how we can move forward in providing digital video streaming for the higher education communities. We are currently exploring options for conducting follow-up at the 2010 National Media Market. http://nmm.net/ Regards, Jane (and the Gang of 7: Meredith Miller, Dylan McGinty, Carleton Jackson, Sarah McCleskey, Eleonore Martin and deg farrelly) -- deg farrelly, Full Librarian Arizona State University PO Box 37100 Phoenix, Arizona 85069-7100 Phone: 602.543.8522 Email: deg.farrelly@xxxxxxx
