*CIPC 603 -- Fair Use and Licensing (2-week elective)* An examination of
fair use and licensing. Discussion covers various questions: What rights do
users of creative works have to use copyrighted material without permission
or payment? How risky is it to use those rights, and how can those risks be
mitigated? Whats at stake in exercising and defending fair use and other
balancing features of copyright, and how does the balancing concept fit
into the evolution and current reality of copyright law and practice?
Topics also include types of licenses, management of licenses (including
complex rights issues), new standards, and best practices.

*CIPC 604 -- Patents and Trademarks (4-week elective) *An overview of
patents, trademarks, trade dress, and trade secrets. Topics include
elements of patentability and patentable subject matter. Discussion also
covers the differences between patents and trademarks, the patent
prosecution process, and trademarks and infringement cases. Case studies
and case law involving patent infringement are analyzed.
