An online Professional Development certificate offering from the Center for
Intellectual Property at UMUC.  [Formerly the Certificate in Copyright
Management and Leadership - Program name change to occur with 2013
Certificate Program].  The Certificate is comprised of the eight-week

 in Copyright Management and Leadership* course and one(1) elective. The
electives run annually during the months of January, June, and July
("J-Terms).

Provides an overview of copyright issues that impact higher education with
a strong emphasis on copyright and fair use. Participants will develop a
framework for addressing ownership of distance education course materials,
e-reserves, fair use, the TEACH Act, open access initiatives, licensing
mechanisms and processes, assessment of institutional copyright policies,
the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and development of campus copyright
awareness.


The following elective workshops may be taken individually, outside of the
certification program. Separate tuition fees apply. All workshops are
offered online.



   - *IPNA 605--Global Intellectual Property Management (2-week elective)
   July 22-August 2, 2013*A study of the influence of international
   treaties and agreements (such as the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement)
   on domestic law. Global Intellectual Property Management Topics include law
   issues, public domain, global marketplace issues and authorship issues in
   an international context.


   - *IPNA 606--Intellectual Property Management (IPM) Best Practices
   (2-week elective*) June 17-28, 2013*A study of leading best practice,
   bench marking and intellectual property management standards including a
   focus on Academic Intellectual Property Management Practices (Fair Use Best
   Practices and Copyright Literacy Standards).*  *
