Dear Heather:

Are you familiar with the concept of separating content from
presentation? One reason some educators shun PDF for distributing
academic material is precisely that PDF fails this first criterion of
http publishing.

The first link, below, is to the site that introduced me to these
principles in the mid 1990s. The rest are just overkill. rl
