Sadly, the nuances of Gail's and John's positions, taken together, suggest everyone but the lawyers (like me) do better when academic work uses clearly and only "Fair Use Sources and Software". Any other course exposes the institution to liability, and, worse, diverts precious finite resources from research to legal.
