Subject: [digital-copyright] Rights for video recordings of stage productions From: Deg Farrelly <deg.farrelly@xxxxxxx> Date: Wed, 15 May 2013 20:35:20 +0000 |
Are there any definitive policy documents regarding the videotaping of live stage performances? And subsequent digitization and streaming? We are looking at a potential collection of numerous recorded stage productions that the professor assures us she has acquired the rights for. We have not yet seen the permissions. I suspect that what the professor has are tapes for which she secured permission to record, but a) did not secure releases from the performers, and/or b) the person who granted permission was not in the position to grant the rights. Also, rights granted for the original recording in all likelihood did not include rights to transfer/copy/digitize and or stream. What says the collective wisdom of the group? (Knowing full well that the answer to ALL copyright questions is: "It depends." Thank you. deg farrelly, Media Librarian Arizona State University Libraries Hayden Library C1H1 P.O.
