Well I hooked up the 2600's Audio output to my C-64's Pitch-2-Midi converter and booted the digital tuning meter. It drove the damn thing CRAZY on everything below middle C. So then I had to play it by ear compairing the notes to a sine wave on one of my keyboards. Here's how the tones produced on a 2600 sound to the human ear. Granted, I've only mapped this out for Sound Type #1. I'm assuming that the fequency proportions are the same for all the other sounds. Anyways, here's what I came up with... ATARI 2600 Sound Map SOUND TYPE: 01 -------------- PITCH 00: C 4 -- Slightly Sharp 01: C 3 -- Close 02: F 2 -- Slightly Sharp 03: C 2 -- Close 04: G# 1 -- Sharp 05: F 1 -- Close 06: D 1 -- Very Sharp D# -- Very Flat 07: C 1 -- Close MIDDLE C 08: A# -1 -- Close 09: G# -1 -- Close 10: F# -1 -- Very Sharp G -- Very Flat 11: F -1 -- Close 12: E -1 -- Slightly Sharp 13: D -1 -- Very Sharp 14: C# -1 -- Sharp 15: C -1 -- Close 16: B -2 -- Close 17: A# -2 -- Close 18: A -2 -- Sharp 19: G# -2 -- Sharp 20: G -2 -- Very Sharp 21: F# -2 -- Very Sharp 22: F -2 -- Very Sharp F# -- Flat 23: E -2 -- Extremely Sharp F -- Slightly Flat 24: E -2 -- Sharp 25: E -2 -- Slightly Flat 26: D# -2 -- Close 27: D -2 -- Very Sharp D# -- Flat 28: D -2 -- Slightly Flat 29: C# -2 -- Slightly Sharp 30: C# -2 -- Flat 31: C -2 -- Slightly Sharp Hope this is helpful. The higher you want to have the pitch, the fewer notes You get to choose from. And with all these funky 1/4 and 1/8 tones, you can get some pretty neat east-indian music happening.
