Subject: [stella] In the final testing stage (I hope). From: Chris Cracknell <crackers@xxxxxxxx> Date: Wed, 9 Sep 1998 19:06:00 -0400 (EDT) |
Well, I think I've worked the last of the timing bugs out of my clock program. I'll let it run for a few days to see what it gains or loses. I'm not going to fuss over a second or two either way per day but I think I've got it running pretty accurate right now. I do have a few questions about how the 2600 itself keeps it's own internal time. Can the powersupply of the 2600 affect the speed with wich the 2600 runs. If you're an a few milliamps shy or a volt or so under or over can this cause the CPU's speed to fluctuate? Can RF interference on the poweline affect the timing? If you power is 50Hz or 60Hz could that affect the timing. Is there a quartz crystal that controls the timing or is it controlled with an analogue circuit? I'm just curious if all the fine tuning adjustments I've made to the program are going to react differently on someone else's machine because they have a different power supply or what not. I'm also curious as to wether the 50Hz power freaquency of european 2600s will affect in some subtle way the timing of the machine. After I've let it run for a few days to see if the timing glitches have been fixed, I'll upload the final version of the clock program to the list. If anyone wants I can clean up my source code too and post it to the list (although there's not much in it that hasn't already been covered by either the first clock program's source code or other people's programs here).
