What it comes down to is that creating a superior product means very little when you're against a big corporation, the classic example obviously being Tengen not paying for a development license for the NES and having their version of Tetris pushed off the market by Nintendo, who couldn't even be bothered to include a 2-player mode in their version. I'm actually surprised that Atari didn't attempt any kind of countersuit given that the arcade version of Tetris has an Atari copyright on it, and Tengen is owned by Atari....
