No, it just means that we should isolate certain techniques that may fail on some systems and enforce the usage of lowest-common-denominator standards if at all possible.

In most cases, deviating from this standard isn't absolutely necessary.

Either that or if we can isolate the actual problem on these motherboards (like what was done with the 7800) then somebody can come up with a hack to solve it.

It depends on how many pre-existing games (not homebrews) might be affected. If it's a large enough number then the people who have these consoles would probably be motivated to mod their system. We're talking about retrogamers here, the core of the hobby, not the average end user anymore.
