you can use a switcher, just not the old slider one. I was using a coax selector that I picked up from Radio Shack, it worked really well. Part # 15-1217

I'm now using the Cybertech S-Video Card to get s-video and stereo sound out of the 2600 for a much better picture. You can get that from

1) click "online-store" (topmost switch on the left)
2) click "2600" (middle of the top row of game systems)
3) click "atari 2600 hardware"
4) click "S-video card"

That's part of the "loot" I got from Radio Shack. It's just that we'd like
to watch cable on the same TV that I'll be using with the Atari. I guess
it's really not a big deal to swap cables.
