Another alternative is a television that accepts VGA input. These
aren't
particularly common but they do exist, usually in 27-36" sizes, but
there's
also a good chance that it will sync to 15.7 kHz just fine through the
VGA
input.

These are pretty much standard in PAL countries. The SCART connector contains RGB signals, making the average european TV equivalent to a Commodore Amiga RGB monitor.
Only recently have US TVs started shipping with component inputs (for hookups to DVD players) but I don't think those are exactly the same as a DB9 RGB signal.
