I forgot that you should have a diode too so that the -12v doesn't make it
through. This circuit should output about +3v for +12v and 0v for -12v.
Should produce valid TTL levels for serial ports that output +9v and up. If
your serial port outputs less than 9v, reduce the size of the 3k resistor
accordingly.
