Re: [Virtools] Virtools and QTVR

Hi Reed

As far as i could tell from both games, the effect of a pre-rendered backdrop with realtime characters and other elements, is quite well to do inside virtools without other external tools..

Basically you can create a high-res cube map of your backdrop, and display it in virtools using some form of the sky-around BB.
I've tried using the sky-around bb shipped with virtools, to create such effects, it very possible the people behind syberia used a more advanced custom sdk BB.

Anyway once you have your 360 degrees backdrop you can import a simpler version of the enviroment with off course the same camera as the backdrop render.  This enviroment you  can use for collision detection as well as having objects to hide the characters behind.

Basically this enviroment is invisible, and by using "set render order" BB and "set z-buffer" B you can have the realtime characters dissapear behind an invisble object. (think pillars and other elements of the backdrop which are actually on the foreground..

So i think this is one easy method of creating such effects, i rermember seeying a demo of such a scene somewhere between the virtools sample cmo's

Best regards and good luck,
Tomas Sala

Subject: [Virtools] Virtools and QTVR

Hi,

What tools do you people use for the 360/180 virtual reality in
games such as Road to India or Post Mortem?

Is it Apple's QTVR or another VR tool?

Is it integrated with the Virtools development system?

Thanks,

Reed Alpert
