Hi folks,

This system is absolutely great to make stuff. In Belgium there's a
compagny specialised in this technique called 'alterface'
They make absolutely great things with this for kids on events and
exhibitions with balloons you have to hit etc...
It works on a keying system : first taking a shot of the room empty and then
calculating the overlay of your presence.
Should be absolutely great to have this working on virtools.

Don't know if this helps but perhaps the Sony toy simply performs
Edge detection in real-time for every streamed frame from the camera.
The largest intensity, detected edges could be considered as a bounding box
for an object, Such as your body And hence collision detection could added.
When their overlayed image of an object like a fish is copied into the frame
a simple calculation could be made about if the object interests the edge
detected object ie you
In 2D space as that object moves about the 2D image.

Well, I think that the eyetoy camera is nothing more than a normal webcam.
The real deal is the software that processes the incoming video feed and
turns it into
controller signals.
As you (most likely) don't get the sourcecode, you can't use the software
on a PC...

Sorry to sound like a kiljoy ;)

Ciao, Patrick
