Thanks to Dieter Maurer who pointed out that XT will use "&auml;"
style entities on output when using the HTML 4 result namespace.

I'm now a happy camper: specifying ``<?xml version="1.0"
encoding="ISO-8859-1" ?>'' in the XML instance allows me to use
iso-8859-1 for input, and I get good output, too.
