DTD Files !

Hi everybody,

I have just started working on XML stuff and i don't understand a thing.
Why on earth most of the examples i found on internet don't use a DTD file ?
At this point i am really thiniking that DTD file are not important when i
have to use XML.
Please, could you clear my mind ?
