You don't may copy it, use normal xsl-templates:
<xsl:template match="*|@*|text()">
<xsl:copy>
<xsl:apply-templates select="*|@*|text()"/>
</xsl:copy>
</xsl:template>
<xsl:template match="sr">
<br/>
</xsl:template>
Because he first template is very general, you have to pay some attention on
side effects. But you can make empty templates for all elements, which
should not be processed:
<xsl:template match="not-to-process"/>
