Sure - it depends in where you use the xpath.  Since he mentioned that
/myxml/node/text() returns all the text, and he was after a 'single
expression', I was assuming he was doing <xsl:value-of select="...."/>

In my defence also offered:

<xsl:template match="/">
	<xsl:apply-templates select="myxml/node"/>
</xsl:template>

<xsl:template match="node">
  <xsl:value-of select="@val"/>
</xsl:template>

...which is more new-user friendly than using a for-each as you suggested ;)
