I could see the image when I type in its url on the web server. But when I include the absolute url into the src, it does not show up in the report.

Check the logs whether there is a complaint about an invalid URL or other problems while retrieving the content. Depending on your environment you need to take some actions to make reading images over HTTPS work.
Note that the Cocoon user list is a more appropriate forum for this kind of somewhat product specific questions.
