    I think that rather than using xsl:analyze-string to
    analyze the value of regex-group(5), I would use a sequence
    of calls on matches():

    <xsl:variable name="fname" select="regex-group(5)"/> <xsl:choose>
      <xsl:when test="matches($fname, 'b$')">...
      <xsl:when test="matches($fname, 'm$')">...
      <xsl:otherwise>...

Works well.
Add additional when clauses for new types,
the otherwise takes care of exceptions.

Thanks Mike!
