  To be more specific can i select all ORDINATE_ITEM
  elements from position 1 to position 5 

select="ORDINATE_ITEM[position() &lt; 6]

  and then all all ORDINATE_ITEM
  elements from position 6 to the last position?

select="ORDINATE_ITEM[position() &gt;= 6]
