It ain't bartending school.

It would be a good idea to get a good grounding in 6502 assembly
by programming a bit for a microcomputer, like the C64 or the Apple.
The Apple has a built-in ML monitor, even.  That way when you want to
tame the TIA, you have one less thing to worry about having to learn.

It also helps to have a print reference of some kind for when you're
confused on a certain point.

Luckily, there's not much to the 6502.  Three registers and only a
handful of opcodes that all pretty much work the same.

And you have to understand both binary and hexadecimal.
