The Point

(May 14, 2001) Every Recruiting interaction should share one goal:

To make the candidates you want want you.

  • Everyone who reads a job ad from the company should want to work there enough to submit a resume.
  • Every Job Ad should be written to accomplish this employment marketing and branding objective.
  • Everyone who is interviewed for a job should leave wanting it.
  • Everyone who hears about the company from an employee, customer or vendor should want to work there.
  • Every ex employee should hope for the chance to work for the company again.
  • Every ex employee should be a walking advertisement for employment at the company.
  • Competitors employees should want to work for the company.
  • Children in the surrounding communities should want to have careers with the company.
  • Every customer interaction should involve leaving the customer wishing for an opportunity to work for the company.
In other words:
  • Recruiting is fundamentally a marketing task.
  • The best Recruiting starts with the workforce.
  • Marketing should approve Job Ads.
