This is, unfortunately, technically proper behavior.  Although
I'm a little tempted to add a switch to the stylesheets to
change this.  (Then again, mucking with individual character
flow objects can have significant performance penalty and
paragraphs are usually fairly common, so...)

Paragraphs are "mixed content," so that linebreak is as
significant as inter-word space.
